Unavoidable supply chain and personnel shortages experienced by the contractor tasked to undertake the refurbishment of the Gundagai Swimming Pool has seen a delay in the scheduled opening of the pool for the 2024/25 summer season.
The refurbishment commenced in July 2024, when a suitably qualified contractors was awarded the tender.
The $448,000 project will see a new entry foyer that has disability access, combined with a new kiosk that will meet current food handling principles, a first aid room that will meet the required building code. Pool users will enjoy new toilet and shower facilities, all with disabled access.
Acting Manager Regional Services Gundagai Mr Greg Ewings said staff understand the urgency for the pool to be open with the current weather conditions and are working hard in conjunction with the contractor.
“We have been liaising with the lessee and the Gundagai Swimming Club and along with the contractor we are doing everything possible to have the pool opened as soon as possible. We all want to deliver the fresh, user-friendly refurbished amenities and building to the community, local swimming club and pool users,” Mr Ewings said.
“The delay in opening is regrettable and certainly not what we envisaged, these projects can often throw up unforeseen challenges, particularly when renovating infrastructure that is over 50 years old.
The contractor has been able to relocate trades from another project to assist and a revised works schedule has been submitted. They are indicating a possible four-week extension to the original schedule, but all will be working hard to get this project completed sooner, if possible,” Mr Ewings added.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council will keep residents and pool users updated and will advertise the official opening date as soon as practicable.
