Youth Strategic Plan
Cootamundra-Gundagai New Youth Strategic Plan
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council have developed a youth strategy for the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council area. The strategy outlines youth engagement, programs and services in the council area, focusing on enhancing opportunities, connection and well-being of the regions young people.
Council Youth Engagement Background
The former Gundagai Shire Council endorsed a Youth Plan written in 2010 by a consultant for the Gundagai Neighbourhood Centre with funding from Beyond Blue. The former Cootamundra Shire Council had no specific youth plan but supported initiatives such as Youth Week and holiday programs with other various community organisations also running programs and providing youth services.
The 2010 plan had a focus on the mental wellbeing of the youth of the Gundagai region as well as infrastructure and services and facilitated the forming of the Gundagai Youth Council. This plan was instrumental in identifying and addressing key items and priority issues, many of which have now been completed such as the forming of the Gundagai Youth Council, a skate park, a youth space and more recently a youth development officer. It is the aim of the 20-30 Youth Strategy to encompass the council area as a whole while taking into account the uniqueness of each community creating an even more successful strategy for youth across the wider region.
