CURRENT: NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR SOUTHERN REGIONAL PLANNING PANEL – COMMUNITY & EXPERT REPRESENTATIVES:
CGRC is calling for nominations from the community to be considered for appointment to the Southern Regional Planning Panel (SRPP), either as a specialist/expert member or a general community representative on behalf of Council.
The SRPP plays a role in the independent assessment & determination of regionally significant development applications. The Panel ensures that decisions reflect both professional expertise & local insight.
Council invites nominations from individuals in two categories:
- Specialist/Expert Members
Individuals with qualifications &/or substantial experience in one or more of the following fields are encouraged to apply:
o Urban & regional planning
o Architecture or urban design
o Heritage conservation
o Environmental management
o Land economics
o Traffic & transport
o Engineering
o Law
o Tourism development
- General Community Representatives
Individuals with a strong understanding of local issues, a demonstrated interest in community planning, & a commitment to fair & balanced decision-making are encouraged to apply. Prior experience in planning is not essential. Capacity to attend online meetings & navigate digital documents & storage platforms is required. The SRPP consists of five members. Three independent expert members, including the chair, are appointed by the NSW Minister for Planning & Public Spaces & are known as state members. Two members are nominated by council. A further two alternate members is also being sought. Appointed members will be expected to assess development proposals on their merits & contribute to open, informed & transparent decision-making processes.
Panel appointments will be for a term of three years, commencing 1 July 2025.
Panel members are not expected to be called upon frequently, as Regionally Significant Development Applications occur infrequently within the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council area—for example, only two Regionally Significant applications were lodged in the past 18 months.
To nominate, please submit a current resume & a brief statement outlining your relevant experience, area of interest (expert or community representative), reasons for seeking appointment & preference of permeate or alternant appointment. Nominations are to be emailed to mail@cgrc.nsw.gov.au. Nominations close on 4 June 2024. For more information, please contact Council’s Sustainable Development team on 1300 459 689 or email mail@cgrc.nsw.gov.au.
