Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC), customer service areas will be closed to the general public from 5pm today.

CGRC Mayor Cr Abb McAlister said it was a decision not taken lightly, however the wellbeing of staff must be prioritised.

“As I’ve said before, we are meeting daily and receiving updates from authorities, we are acting on advice, and after consultation with our staff and managers we have to make this decision. Too many people are coming into our offices with requests, enquiries and doing business that can be done either over the phone or by other means,” Cr McAlister said.

Council’s phones will be staffed as normal, and any matters requiring attention in person will be by appointment only.

Cr McAlister also wanted to advise residents, that Council is not the go to place to report matters that should be reported to Crime Stoppers or local police. The Crime Stoppers number is 1800 333 000.

Residents are asked to call Council offices on 1300 459 689 or email mail@cgrc.nsw.gov.au to make appointments for face to face meetings. Staff will determine if the request requires personal contact or can be dealt with by using other avenues, such as online, phone or email contact.

Council’s website has instructions on the payment of rates, and other Council fees either by phone or online.   Development applications can be submitted online through the NSW Government Planning Portal https://www.planningportal.nsw.gov.au/onlineDA. The portal does have a ‘Your guide to the Development Application process’ information pack to guide applicants through the process. Council staff are also able to assist with questions over the phone or via email.
