Coota’s Men’s Shed On the Move
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) and the Cootamundra Men’s Shed Organisation are currently undertaking a relocation project that will see the Men’s Shed group move to new premises in Hovell Street Cootamundra.
The project is being funded with a grant from the Stronger Communities Fund Round 2 program, an initiative of the NSW State Government and administered by CGRC.
The move to Hovell Street for the local branch of the Men’s Shed will involve the extension and renovations to the existing facility on the site. Installation of new driveway, fencing and earthworks have commenced.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke MP said she was looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition.
“The $100,000 SCF round two grant will enable the Men’s Shed to expand their services and welcome more members. This is a really worthwhile project and am pleased our Government has been able to support it,” Ms Cooke said.
CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said he supported the work of the Men’s Shed movement and support, resources and services the organisation provides.
“Men’s Shed play an important role in addressing social isolation, health and well-being. The new facility will be a fantastic venue for expanding and enhancing the work this vital group does in our community,” Cr McAlister said.
The Men plan on adding a 15 metre extension to the existing building, which was formally the CGRC Water and Sewer Depot. A kitchen, tea and meeting rooms, toilets and large wood and metal work areas will be installed.
