Work on a 25 metre long zero depth entry ramp at the Gundagai Swimming pool is almost complete, with water proofing membranes being installed this week.
The ramp has been constructed on the eastern edge of the Olympic pool, and will enable disabled, aged and frail people easy entry to the pool via the ramp which has been designed to allow gradual entry to the water.
$146,000 of a $300,000 Stronger Communities Fund Round One grant has been spent on the ramp. Resurfacing of the pool and other works will also be completed for the 2019-2020 swimming season.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) mayor Cr Abb McAlister said the projects being undertaken at the Gundagai Swimming Pool will ensure the facility is fit for all people.
“This ramp will be a great benefit for all people who use the pool, and the other work being undertaken at the pool will address some of the challenges we have faced over the years,” Cr McAlister said.
“I’m sure this coming swimming season will bring more patrons to our pool and offer a better experience for all,” he added.
“This is another example of the Stronger Communities Fund making a difference to our towns and villages,” Ms Cooke said. “It’s so important that as many people as possible can access Gundagai Swimming Pool, and this ramp will ensure that every member of the Gundagai community can get into the water for exercise or relaxation.”
