The Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) has so far completed over $8 million in projects.
A recent workshop for CGRC Project Management Team has revealed some interesting facts and figures on Council’s performance in the delivery of 156 projects on Council’s books since the amalgamation of the former Cootamundra and Gundagai Councils.
The Project Management Team, are overseeing $53 million received from various government grants and Council funds that were set aside for infrastructure programs. The $53 million in funds include $10 million received from the Stronger Communities Fund and Stronger Country Communities Fund for projects throughout the region. $13 million for the Gundagai Sewerage Treatment Plant. $15 million originally granted to CGRC for the implementation of the merger, including $1 million allocated to 46 local organisations, to carry out a range of improvements, purchases and upgrades. Further funds have also been obtained from various State and Federal government funding sources.
Council officers were pleased to report that 37 projects have been completed to the value of over $813,000. The nine remaining projects are progressing.
Regular fortnightly meetings/workshops are held with the 16 members of the Project Management Team, undertaking the delivery of the 110 projects currently being undertaken. Reports from these meetings are forwarded to monthly Councillor Workshops and monthly Council meetings. A full report is also available in the CGRC Business Papers.
CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said the community organisations projects had made a huge difference to these groups.
“Some of these projects were small and some large, I’ve seen firsthand how beneficial these grants have been. For example, the Cootamundra Riding for Disabled group received a small grant to buy horse rugs this project has allowed the RDA to look after their horses and extend the services the RDA offer, it made such a difference for them,” Cr McAlister said.
“We’ve seen the Gundagai Rodeo Club, erect a new camp draft arena, the $25,000 grant has made the area more accessible, user friendly and safer for the animals, spectators and competitors,” Cr McAlister added.
The report tabled at the project managers’ team workshop showed the progress of 110 projects for the period to 30th April.
25% have been completed, 42% are currently underway. 28% are in the planning stages and only 6 projects have not yet started.

Gundagai Public School P&C – Installation of soft fall for playground.
Coolac to Tumblong Rail Trail Development Plan.
Nangus – Village Playground & Fitness Infrastructure.
Stockinbingal Playground and BMX track.
Cootamundra Tennis – refurbishment of tennis court surfaces, new line marking including hot shot courts.
Gundagai Scouts – Mobile Climbing and Abseiling Wall.
Rathmells Lane – Bitumen sealing from Temora Road.
Cootamundra Nursing Home – Installation of solar panels.
Cootamundra Arts Centre – Tin Shed Theatre Projection.
Cootamundra Sale yards – Lighting and Electrical upgrade.
Cootamundra Sale yards – Construction of new truck wash.
Lindley Park Gundagai – Construction of new playground.
Gundagai Old Gaol – Completion of repairs and maintenance activities and redesign of drainage.
Gundagai Library – Extension.
Morley’s Creek Gundagai – Fishing Pier Replacement.
Gundagai RSL- Carpark resurfacing.
Stan Crowe Oval Gundagai – Canteen and change rooms.
Sheridan Street Gundagai Redevelopment – Main Street Upgrade.

CGRC mayor Councilor Abb McAlister said this was an outstanding achievement.
“Our staff have been very busy, the planning, sourcing and implementation of these projects is a massive job. In many cases the tendering and quoting processes take time and are complicated. I’m really pleased we are on track and are ticking off projects that will make our region safer, and a great experience for residents and visitors alike,” Cr McAlister said.
