Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC), has given the replacement of Bongolong Creek Bridge high priority.
The Bongolong Creek Bridge is located on Burra Rd approximately 18kms from Gundagai. The bridge was closed to heavy traffic in early May, after engineers inspected the structure.
The condition of the bridge was visually observed to be significantly deteriorated with the timber decking exhibiting major structural defects that would present a risk to users of the road. Council engaged the services of consulting engineers to undertake the assessment of the structure and a report was prepared that outlined the need for immediate load (3t) and speed (20km/h) restrictions to minimise further deterioration of the structure whilst keeping the road open for light vehicles.
In a report to last week’s council meeting, Councillors were given a status report into the replacement program for the bridge.
Construction contractors have inspected the site and work is expected to start on the bridge in late August.
