Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) has commenced work on stage 4 of the Sherwood Forest Masterplan.
The work currently being undertaken will include the removal of the aged London Plane trees and the dry riverbed will be formed up with rocks to repair damage from the 2022 flood event.
$135,000 from The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI) is funding the project.
The rejuvenation of the highly valued park will eventually see an area that residents and visitors can enjoy, with an abundance of native flora planted and nurtured to attract native birds and wildlife.
Consultation with the Gundagai community uncovered a desire to keep the park simple, provide colourful planting to enhance the walking experience through the site, provide opportunities for nature play and picnic settings. A pathway throughout the park was high on the agenda of community wishes, due to its location to the CBD of Gundagai, Morleys Creek and other recreational areas in close proximity.
Residents are requested to exercise caution around the area of works, access to some areas will be restricted and detours in place.
The site provides important cultural history to the local area, former cattle yards, and there is a desire for this history to be interpreted through signage.
