Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) will implement a one-way traffic throughfare in Parker Lane ( Woolworths Carpark) Cootamundra in July 2024, from Bourke Street to Wallendoon Street.
Council resolved to approve the proposal for the laneway to become one-way that was put forward the local traffic committee in August 2020.
Surveys and consultation with businesses took place whilst CGRC engineers formulated a plan which included talks with Woolworths in Cootamundra, on the direction of traffic through the carpark.
CGRC mayor Cr Charlie Sheahan said this implementation has been an issue first raised in 2007 at Local Traffic Committee meetings.
“I’m really pleased that this safety initiative will be implemented. It’s been a long time coming and I’m sure that the experience of entering and exiting Parker Lane will be far safer than the current environment,” Cr Sheahan said.
Surveys of businesses affected by the change were undertaken and the response was positive. Many stating they had been asking for it for years.
Signage and line marking will commence in early July.
