Council encourages all community members to make the Minister aware of your support for de-amalgamation.  It is important to do this based on accurate information.

Council rarely responds to, or comments on negative claims on social media, however, believe in this instance, it is important to clarity comments made recently regarding Youth services throughout the CGRC area.

‘What a disgrace that after decades of successful youth week programs Gundagai did not have one single event run here for Youth Week NSW this year’. Save Gundagai Shire FB.

Council Officers have spent many hours seeking funding, planning, and preparing for several events to be held across our region throughout Youth Week 2024. All events are promoted in Gundagai and Cootamundra Newspapers, Gundagai Youth Council Facebook, Cootamundra Youth Council Facebook, CGRC Facebook and Website, CGRC Newsletter and Posters supplied to Schools in Gundagai and Cootamundra.

‘InQuizatives Trivia Night and Mini Games’, a Free Trivia Night for Youth Aged 14+ was scheduled for Friday, 12 April 2024 at the Gundagai District Services Club. This event was to be held in partnership with MLHD, Kempe, RAMHP, Intereach and Roar. A request was received to postpone this event due to recent losses in the Gundagai community.  This event will be rescheduled at an appropriate time.

‘Youth Fest’ was held in Cootamundra on Thursday, 18 April 2024 incorporating a free bus to transport Gundagai Youth attendees to and from the event.  This event was supported by Youth Councils across the region including a bus in attendance from Hilltops Council.  The bus from Gundagai was cancelled due to lack of numbers.

‘Youth Canvas Painting Workshop’ featuring Star Art, Artist Megan Hart scheduled for Monday 15 April 2024 in Carberry Park, Gundagai was cancelled due to lack of numbers.

‘Gundagai Youth Space and Sports Day’ was scheduled for Tuesday, 23 April 2024.  This event was an opportunity for community members to look through the Gundagai Youth Space and enjoy a free lunch and games. This event was not supported, and only organisers were in attendance.

All the above events are organised with enthusiasm and positivity.  Council continues to seek ways to break through barriers and implement continual improvement in our promotion and event management.

The communities of Cootamundra and Gundagai have many reasons to desire a de-amalgamation, let’s keep the focus on legitimate ones.
