Stockinbingal’s Ellwood’s Hall has had rising damp issues addressed recently.

The popular hall has undergone some significant improvements of late, with the installation of a new kitchen and other repairs.

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council were informed by the Ellwood’s Hall committee that a rising damp issue had arisen after a rain event. Council engaged a local contractor to investigate the drainage and roofing issues. It was discovered that some cracked roof sheeting and a number of other storm water problems existed which were contributing to the damp problems.

The contractors were engaged to repair the faults identified which included replacing all storm water downpipes and drainage from the building. It was requested that this work be carried out within certain timeframes as to not clash with the bookings the Hall had already booked in for November.

This work has been completed and the Ellwood’s Hall Committee are very grateful at how efficient and tidy the contractors were.

“We just wanted to let you know how grateful we are for the prompt action on the drainage issue at the hall recently. Plumbers arrived to check out the problem within hours of my notifying you of the mould issue in the meeting room. The plumbers did a great job – very quick and efficient and cleaned up afterwards well,” a spokesperson for the Ellwood’s Hall committee said.

The spokesperson said the committee appreciated that Council and the contractors were able to work within the halls time frames with the very popular Twilight Markets being held on 25th November 2023.

CGRC mayor Cr Charlie Sheahan said he was delighted that these issues were addressed.

“It’s great to get positive feedback on the work that Council is involved with and co-ordinate, I’m pleased these issues at Ellwood’s Hall were addressed promptly and thank the committee for all the wonderful work they do in keeping this grand building an integral part of the Stockinbingal community. I wish them well for the upcoming Twilight Markets, they are popular and are placed ideally at the hall,” Cr Sheahan said.
