Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) Local Government Area (LGA) welcomed seven new citizens yesterday at Australian Citizenship Ceremonies held in Gundagai and Cootamundra.
To mark Australian Citizenship Day (Sunday 17 September), two Citizenship Ceremonies were held on Monday 18 September 2023.
The day commenced with two new citizens, Leigh Parkhill and Eva Larsen attending the ceremony at the Gundagai Council Chambers. Joined by family and friends Leigh and Eva were welcomed by CGRC Mayor Charlie Sheahan, Deputy Mayor Leigh Bowden and Councillor Penny Nicholson, where they took the pledge and were presented with their certificates.
Another ceremony took place in the Alby Schultz Meeting Centre in Cootamundra in the afternoon, where five new citizens were welcomed by CGRC Mayor Charlie Sheahan, Deputy Mayor Leigh Bowden and CGRC staff.
Nicolyn Aaronia, Danyal Syed, Catherine Waters and Patrick and Judith Koon Kon Foo took the pledge and received their certificates from Mayor Sheahan.
“This is the most welcome job a mayor must do, whilst in office. I thoroughly enjoy conducting these ceremonies and welcoming you all as Australian citizens,” Councillor Sheahan said.
After each ceremony, all attendees and their guests enjoyed refreshments supplied by CGRC and were given gifts to commemorate their special day.
