With the end of the financial year looming, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council’s (CGRC), Finance Department has been busy preparing the 2023 Financial Statements.
The 2024 budget for operations and capital has been put on public display and is due for adoption at the Ordinary Council Meeting to be held on the 27 June 2023. This budget was developed through a review of existing service levels and requirements and collaboration with every manager at Council.
The 2024 budget has been designed to ensure that Council can maintain existing service levels while improving the cash position of the Council to ensure financial sustainability. All departments across Council have improved processes and procedures to fine tune the financial management of their respective departments.
The budget has accounted for the split between Cootamundra and Gundagai for the regional services and engineering departments. With further refinement and planning across the other departments as the demerger process progresses.
For the first time since 2016 Council is anticipating a surplus result.
CGRC Interim General Manager Mr Steve McGrath said, “It is always challenging for councils to put together a budget that delivers for the community when there are so many constraints on councils’ ability to raise revenue, such as rate pegging.”
“For Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council the challenge is increased in an environment where we all await direction from the new Minister for Local Government regarding next steps for the demerger. The 2023/24 budget presented to Council and the community is fiscally responsible,” Mr McGrath added.
