Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) has welcomed James Tonson to the team, as Youth and Inclusion Officer.
James has moved to Cootamundra from Coffs Harbour to be closer to family and has a one-year-old son. Formally with the Coffs Harbour City Council in the Corporate Sustainability and Community Planning portfolio James brings valuable experience with him in his new role at CGRC.
Born in New Zealand, James moved to Melbourne as a teenager and helped to establish the VicSRC, A Victorian wide network of high school student Councils.
James is excited about tackling the big issues for young people in Cootamundra, including employment opportunities, mental health and establishing a dedicated youth space.
““Cootamundra has given me a very friendly welcome, and everyone seems to want the best for local young people, so I’m looking forward to working with the local Youth Councils and the wider community to provide opportunities and inspiration for the future of Cootamundra.
The more opportunities we create, the more our young people gain valuable experience and hopefully we can strengthen the community in the process.” James said.
James is keen to encourage positive development with the young people in the community and work with the local Youth Councils to implement services and programs that are of high quality and meet the needs of the young people.
