Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) received some good news, with the announcement of funding for road infrastructure from Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development and Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack MP, NSW Minister for Regional Roads, Paul Toole MP, and State Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke MP.
The announcement said councils across the Riverina and Cootamundra electorates would share in more than $10 million in road funding to help local councils tackle the increasing amount of work required to provide safe roads for their communities.
CGRC has been given funding of $532,500 to be spread across three projects.
Warralong Road in Cootamundra ($187,500) is a gravel road on the outskirts of the township. The funding will allow Council to commence the first stage of works in reconstruction and sealing the road.
Brawlin Road in Cootamundra ($157,500), a highly maintained gravel road, which requires a lot of maintenance will more than one kilometre of sealed surface and reconstruction works commence.
French Street in Cootamundra ($187,500), an urban street which suffers from drainage issues that have resulted in pavement failures and damage to the kerb and gutter, will see a rehabilitation project undertaken.
The funds have been provided after successful applications under the latest round of the Australian and NSW Governments accelerated Fixing Local Roads program.
CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said the funding was a welcome boost,
“In applying for this funding, these projects were a priority for Council, and I am pleased that they have been successful, and work will commence as soon as practicable. The residents and motorists who use these roads and streets will see a significant improvement when work is completed,” Cr McAlister said.
