The Cootamundra Visitor Centre participated in the Driver Reviver trial over the period 17th December 2020 to 27th January 2021.
A spokesperson for the visitor Centre said the trial proved to be very successful. With many visitors coming through the centre and commenting favourably on the services available.
The welcome cup of tea or coffee and biscuits were very much appreciated by travellers.
According to the spokesperson, businesses in the town also reported a pleasing increase in the number of visiting customers who stopped and shopped locally.
The Driver Reviver service is becoming a household name among the travelling public and has been operating since 1990. Figures from Transport for NSW (TfNSW), report that about 1.1 million people stop at Driver Reviver sites across Australia each year and up to 1.7 million cuppas and 1.3 million snacks are consumed each year.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) mayor Cr Abb McAlister extended his appreciation and congratulations to the volunteers.
“The Driver Reviver program is so important in combating fatigue-related crashes on our roads, I sincerely thank all those who volunteered their time during the holiday break and applaud their efforts,” Cr McAlister said.
The spokesperson said, visitors to the Cootamundra Visitors Centre Driver Reviver site said they looked forward to making a driver reviver stop and appreciated the service offered by the volunteers.
It is hoped the volunteers from the Visitors Centre will be able to continue the service over the Easter holidays.
CGRC intends to apply for funding under the Driver Reviver Site Upgrade Program Round 2 funding to improve the Centre facilities to allow the driver reviver program to continue in the future. Applications for funding close 25 February 2021.
