Councillor Abb McAlister, mayor for Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council has issued road safety advice for all residents who will be travelling for the upcoming School holiday, Easter and Anzac Day public holidays.

“I would like to urge all residents who are travelling on the roads over this period to please take care, drive to the conditions, adhere to speed limits, don’t drink and drive and most of all come home safely,” Councillor McAlister said.

The period starting 17 April, will see the start of the NSW school holidays, coinciding with Easter, the Anzac Day long weekend on 27 April will round out a two-week period that will see a lot of people travelling on the region’s roads.

“Despite the concentrated effort on road safety messages and initiatives it is worrying that the road toll continues to rise, the current figures from TfNSW indicates that lives lost on the State’s roads is up from the same period last year, and the number of serious injuries has also increased.

We all need to be responsible for road safety, take regular breaks, stay off the mobile phone, don’t drink and drive, buckle up and slow down. These are the messages I hope all residents can take with them, so they enjoy a break, appreciate the time with family and friends and experience a period full of happiness,” Councillor McAlister added.

Double demerit points will be in force from 17 April to 21 April and again from 24 to 27 April.
