The hub of the community… was how Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC), Mayor Abb McAlister described Ellwoods Hall at Stockinbingal last week.
Councillor McAlister in his capacity as Mayor, took centre stage to open the new amenities at the popular local hall. The mayor reminisced to the gathering at the opening of his first visit to the hall in his first term as Mayor for CGRC.
“I think it was late 2017, when I first came here to Stock, I remember the very warm welcome I received and the tour of the Hall as it was then. The old toilets out the back were disgraceful, the kitchen, supper room and other parts of the hall were in desperate need of work. Now as I look about and see that the kitchen, supper room and craft room have been renovated. The new toilet facilities now bring this hall back to life and make it fit for purpose. Each project has enhanced and improved the halls functions.
I’d like to congratulate the committee on your commitment and the work you all do, we can all see that you have spent money well. This hall with it’s attached Post Office, craft and heritage room and the activities that take place make it the hub of this community,” Councillor McAlister said.
The official opening of the new amenities block was held in conjunction with the monthly Stop & Mingle gathering, where guests are treated to delicious morning tea and guest speakers.
The project was funded by the Stronger Country Communities Fund, $168,350.00 was allocated to the project from this source. Local contractor JSL Builders were engaged to bring the project in on time and in budget, an achievement considering the challenges the project encountered.
Mayor McAlister passed on his thanks to John Lienesch from JSL Builders, Councillor Les Cooper and former Councillor Leigh Bowden for representing the Ellwoods Hall s355 committee.
