Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) will implement parallel parking to the western side of Cootamundra’s Murray Street, between Bourke and Adams Streets.
Council resolved at the Ordinary meeting of Council on Tuesday 25 February to endorse the recommendation put forward by the Local Traffic Committee, after receiving numerous complaints regarding the reduced passageway between reversed parked vehicles on both sides of the street between Bourke and Adams Streets. The concerns and complaints have been centred around the number of large vehicles forced to reverse park under the current parking regulations.
The change will be welcome for town visitors, allowing for larger RV’s, caravans and motorhomes to park at a more convenient location to the town’s Central Business District (CBD), within walking distance to cafes, supermarkets, banks and shopping outlets.
CGRC Mayor Abb McAlister said the change was necessary due to community feedback and in the interests of road safety.
“Adjusting and revisiting issues is an important part of Council’s role, in this instance the need to change the current situation to suit what is really happening in today’s environment is crucial. We’ve listened to the community concerns, taken the recommendations on board and can now take action to make our streets safer, whilst enhancing visitor experiences to our towns.
