Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) will experience another round of public enquiries by the Office of Local Government’s Boundaries Commission this month.
Information requested by the Boundaries Commission during the enquiries held in the last quarter of 2024 has been supplied by CGRC. This information included an update of financial information, the Workforce Management Plan and Service Level information and has led to the Commission announcing the public hearings.
The Boundaries Commission will now hold hearings in Gundagai on Tuesday 18 February, commencing at 2pm at the Gundagai District Services Club and in Cootamundra on Wednesday 19 February from 9.30am at the Cootamundra Ex-Servicemen’s & Citizens Memorial Club.
The hearings are open to the public and will include submissions and presentations from Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke MP, CGRC Mayor, Councillor Abb McAlister and Mr Peter Tegart – Always Thinking Advisory, who has prepared information for the Council and the Commission.
Mr Tegart will make submissions to the Commission in Gundagai and in Cootamundra on the Financial Sustainability Plan and Updated Service Delivery and Workforce Management Plan.
The upcoming public enquiries will be the third round held in the communities as the fight for a demerger of the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council continues.
Commissioners Peter Duncan AM (Chairperson), Councillor Ruth Fagan, Councillor Rick Firman OAM and Mr Grant Gleeson are all familiar with the ongoing campaign to restore CGRC to the former Gundagai and Cootamundra Shire Councils.
CGRC Mayor Councillor Abb McAlister is urging community members to attend the hearings.
“I would ask all those residents who can make it to the hearings to attend, your presence will be an indication of community interest and support of the proposal to demerge the Council. This could be our final chance to demonstrate to the Boundaries Commission and the Minister for Local Government that we believe our communities will be better off operating as separate identities,” Councillor McAlister said.
