Sheridan Street in Gundagai was sparkling, and was swinging to music, markets, and fun during the Sparkling Streets Christmas Carnival last Friday night.

Stall holders braved the extremely hot conditions, whilst children enjoyed the rides. Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) held a pop-up stall promoting road safety, weed control, and other council information and gave out a Christmas card with vital holiday information included. The mayor wrote a special message in the card wishing all a safe and happy Christmas and new year. The Council pop up stall was the venue for Councils Road Safety Officer to promote the Plan B initiative where people can enter the Win A Swag draw with their legal Plan B, when having night out. The lucky winner on the night accepted his Swag and went away happy as did the host of people who attended the night.

CGRC mayor Councillor Abb McAlister said it was great to see so many come out and enjoy the evening.

“The street looked amazing, with the gardens ablaze with colour, Christmas decorations adorning the shops and laybacks, colourful characters including the notorious naughty elves dancing through the streets, handing out lollipops and the big man in red came blasting into the party in a shiny red fire truck with lights and sirens announcing his arrival.

These events are wonderful for our communities; we catch up with people have a little more time to chat and socialise. Its about celebrating the season and keeping local. I enjoyed the night and congratulated all who were involved in the organisation and having our main street looking so great. I spoke with many who were visitors to Gundagai on the night, people just passing through, their comments were extremely positive and that’s great for our town,” Councillor McAlister said.
