Over two days on Wednesday August 28 and Thursday 29, S2 Architects and Sparrowly Group were in Gundagai performing site visits and catching up with key stakeholders to talk about the Gundagai Old Mill. Over the two days many stakeholders were consulted and the history of the town of Gundagai, its stories, and ideas for the next chapter of the Old Mill were key topics of discussion.
From the engagement with key stakeholders, the public consultation, and the online survey all the information will be synthesised, and a list of possible options will be developed. This possible option list will be shared and discussed with Council and the key stakeholders to develop the final two options that will form the masterplan and business cases.
Any redevelopment of the site will consider the potential community use of the site, as well as any commercially focused developments. It will also allow for ongoing maintenance and operating costs to be recovered and the opportunity to attract visitors to the area. Any redevelopment option will require significant funds which will be sourced by Cootamundra -Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) through grants and external funding sources.
CGRC Manager Business Linda Wiles was pleased at the response from the community over the consultation period.
“It was great to have so many interested locals that were keen to discuss options and take an interest in the future of the Old Mill. The Old Mill in Gundagai is the oldest building in Gundagai and is a significant historical and cultural asset to the local community,” Ms Wiles said.
CGRC is currently undertaking the process of developing a Master Plan and Business Case for the Old Mill. This Plan and Business Case will be used by CGRC to apply for grant funding for future development of the Old Mill into the future.
