HANDY RESOURCE HELPS TO PREPARE

Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council has been issued the Fire & Flood Preparedness Resources booklet for residents. This resource is free and available to all residents within the LGA and can be obtained by calling into the Council Administration Offices in Cootamundra and Gundagai.

The Fire + Flood Preparedness booklet is the result of the Disaster Risk Reduction Project undertaken by Riverina Eastern Regional Organisations of Councils (REROC), NSW Government and the Australian Government.

This project is dedicated to enhancing disaster management planning within REROC Member Councils by identifying current gaps and leveraging community insights, the aim is to bolster resilience and reduce risks posed by natural hazards across the region. Through comprehensive mapping tools and collaborative workshops, REROC seek to empower communities and councils to proactively prepare for and mitigate disaster impacts.  The Fire & Flood Preparedness Resource is a handy tool for all to assist with delivering direct risk reduction and risk mitigation solutions, whilst providing a source where residents can record important and vital information they will need in the event of a natural disaster.

In an easy to read format the booklet has checklists, online resources information, bush fire and flood specific tasks, smart phone apps, mental health support, steps to prepare for bush fire, preparing for floods, what to pack in your survival and recover kit, information on what to do with your animals in the event of an emergency along with information and checklists from other agencies in the emergency sector.
