Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) deputy mayor Cr Dennis Palmer officially opening the Food Bank service at Cootamundra Red Cross House on Friday morning.
Councillor Palmer said he was proud to open the facility along with local Red Cross co-ordinator Helen Eccleston.
“I’d like to offer my congratulations on the achievements Helen and her dedicated volunteers bring to our community, and with the establishment of an approved Food Bank in Cootamundra,” Cr Palmer said.
The Food Bank will be open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 10am and 2.00pm for people in need. Grocery items can be obtained for a small cost.
“The services provided by our local Red Cross branch have evolved with the needs of local people.70% of funds raised in Cootamundra, stay in Cootamundra and provide much needed services to people in need. The volunteers are the essence of what rural towns have been built on for decades,” Cr Palmer said.
The local Red Cross branch has over 100 years of experience looking after those less fortunate, selling items such a clothing, furniture, and household items at the Red Cross House store in Parker Street. Proceeds from the store enable the local branch to further extend the services to people in need.
