Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke presented a cheque to Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC), Mayor Abb McAlister on Thursday, 16 July 2020 to the sum of $4,073,926.00.
The money will flow from NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Program, to which the Commonwealth and State Governments have both committed $191 million.
“We want to ensure every person who uses our local roads gets home safely. These funds will ensure everyone who uses our local road network for work, school or enjoyment will be travelling on safe and well-maintained roads.” Ms Cooke said.
Fixing Local Roads is a $500 million NSW Government program, providing funding to councils to assist in reducing the local roads maintenance backlog. Councils will receive the funding to assist in repairing, patching, maintaining, or sealing existing priority council roads.
“The funds will be dedicated to upgrading some of our priority areas such as Mackay Street in Cootamundra from the hospital to Parker Street”, Mayor Abb McAlister commented.
“Steph is very dedicated to ensuring we receive the dollars we need to ensure the safety of our residents, and as always, I commend her, and thank her for her hard work in securing this funding for us.
We also extend our sincere thanks to Federal Member, Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack for his efforts in securing these much appreciated funds”. Mayor Abb McAlister said.
