Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) will be holding Digital Detox programmes at the Cootamundra Library during 2020.
Are you sick of swiping, scrolling, and staring at a screen? Worn out by never-ending notifications and demands from email and social media?
With the hectic pace of modern life and the ever-present reality of technology, it can be hard to find a space for peace, calm, and creativity. From February, you can detox from the digital age every Saturday morning at Cootamundra Library. Leading neuroscientists, teachers, and academics are now pointing to the benefits of escaping the bright screens and instantaneous gratification of technology, with improvements in concentration, vocabulary, and creativity, and tangible health benefits including stress reduction and improved mood, posture, and quality of life.
CGRC residents can come along to the Cootamundra Library on Saturdays and turn off the phone, leave it in a bag, and enjoy some uninterrupted creative or reading time. Try a different activity each week, from puzzles to art, Lego, writing, drawing, or quiet reading. The library will also have guest presenters each month including story-tellers, artists, and educators to help re-train the brain from the hectic reactivity many people feel overwhelmed by in the modern technological age.
Digital Detox is a free program and open to both children and adults. No booking required. The first session is on Saturday February 8 from 10.30-11.30am. Enquiries to the library on 6940 2200
