Installation of playground equipment at Lindley Park is well underway. Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (CGRC) received a grant of $50,000 from the NSW State Government Social Housing Community Improvement Fund Round Three.
The project was developed in conjunction with the staff of Gundagai Neighbourhood Centre and the South Gundagai Public school to provide a walkable play area for South Gundagai children that will encourage outdoor play and activity with positive health and wellbeing outcomes for the community. The location chosen is easily accessed on a flat block of land.
South Gundagai residents and families do not have play equipment in the area, Council sees this project will actually benefit not only the south side residents but the whole community creating equal opportunity.
CGRC mayor Cr Abb McAlister said he was delighted the project was underway.
“This is a great project, the installation of this playground equipment ensures children in the South Gundagai area have the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities and each other’s company,” Cr McAlister said.
NSW State Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke MP reiterated Cr McAlister’s comments
“Encouraging our children to enjoy outdoor activities is so important, providing spaces that encourage children’s play is such a way forward for our community’s youngsters,” Ms Cooke said.
CGRC will conduct an opening of the new facilities on the April 11, at Lindley Park in Eagle Street South Gundagai, with a barbeque lunch.
